Objective
CUI consumes a very significant proportion of maintenance budgets across process industries. In large parts, this is due to costs associated with inspection, insulation removal and disposal, metal preparation, and repainting and reinstalling insulation systems.
Reports have suggested as much as 60% of maintenance costs for piping in petrochemical plants are due to mitigation of CUI.
Repairs due to changes in equipment and piping design and layout, incidental damage, and wear and tear will also occur.
Both maintenance and repairs should be treated in the same manner to ensure optimum lifetime.
